Your Perfect Photoshoot Prep Timeline

You probably are wanting to schedule a few appointments or are wondering just how to get your calendar in order for your perfect session. This guideline will help you know the ideal times for all items on your itinerary. This list is fairly extensive and designed to cover lots of different preferences. If you see something on the list you are not planning on doing (e.g. Waxing) then skip it! You are not required to follow any of these steps except the very last one.

One more time for the people who skipped it above

Everything you find below are just general guidelines. Take what works for you and forget the rest. No two women are the same. We all prepare differently. This timeline is designed as a very broad guideline for many different types of women.

1 + Month Away

You just booked your empowering session and are feeling totally excited! You’re ready to dive in and get ready to have your dream session. If you are more than a month away from your scheduled session the best place to start

Go shopping for outfits!

  • Review your Dream Shoot Planner guide

  • Fill out your Perfect Photoshoot Questionnaire (this brief questionnaire should be in your e-mail within 48 hours of booking your session and helps us customize your experience for maximum results)

  • Schedule your consultation call with Leah to go over all the details of your empowering experience

  • Schedule hair appointment if you want to re-do your color or get a trim (we do not recommend totally changing your look right before your shoot, just freshen everything up a bit!)

  • Schedule any facials, injections, or skin treatments you want to indulge in before your shoot

    • We advise that any peels, injections, or treatments be completed at least one week before your session.

  • Start your pre-payment plan for your photo collection and score free, exclusive bonuses!

3 Weeks Away

Your shoot is getting closer. These little tweaks in your daily routine will make a huge difference in your skin and how you feel about your

  • Start upping water intake. Even adding just one extra glass of water a day can make a big difference in your skin!

  • Schedule any waxing, nail, or spray tan appointments you may want to have.

    • Aim to have your nail appointment 2-3 days before your session to reduce the chance of chipping. Soft pinks, bright reds, and french tips give a timeless look to photos while brighter trendier colors lend a playful air. Want something in the middle? A good metallic polish (silver, gold, copper, rose gold) walks the line of modern and classic perfectly. Go with what feels right for you!

    • Waxing should be completed at least 48 before your session to ensure that any irritation has a chance to calm down before you get in front of the camera. We recommend scheduling your appointment 3-5 days before your session.
(If you are shaving also please try to not over shave or shave later that 24 hours before your session to reduce possible irritation)

    • If you can, try to schedule in advance with an airbrush artist that can perfectly paint you tan on 3-4 days before your session.

You’re Getting so Close!

At this point is the best to avoid scenarios where you are at a higher chance for injury or bruising (e.g. now is not the best time to go on that 10 day climbing adventure or have a cupping session). Bumps and bruises can be removed in editing, but our goal is for you to feel your best and most confident. So for the next few weeks treat yourself like the treasure that you are and seek out activities that honor your value but do not compromise your desired experience.

1 Week Away

Your session is just around the corner! Hopefully you are feeling excited and prepared. It is completely normal to also feel a little nervous, but do not worry. We have everything under control so you have nothing to fear!

  • Enjoy your beauty appointments!

    • Waxing. Again this should be completed with at least 48 hours between your appointment and your shoot to minimize irritation.

    • Hair. The color refresh, relaxing, and/or trim should be completed by this week. Our team will style your hair perfectly when you arrive.

    • Skin. Please allow at least five days between a standard facial or skin treatment and your session. If it is a more intense procedure (chemical peels, vampire facials, etc) please allow seven days for recovery. At least five days between any injectable and your photo session is advised to allow swelling and bruising to fade.

  • Double down on your lotion and water drinking

    • It’s go time! Now is the time to add an extra glass on top of your normal daily intake and slather on that lotion for skin that glows in your photos.

    • Taking this extra step also gives you authority over your body and increases your confidence by allowing your body to experience good and loving things.

The Night Before

  • Pack your bag(s). If it is possible make sure everything you need is already packed and good to go so you have less to worry about in the morning. If you are trying to keep this a secret from your partner, pack ahead of time and store you bag in your car overnight. If you need to be really sneaky - take your wardrobe to a trusted friend or neighbor’s home and pick it up on the way to your shoot.

  • Drink a big glass of water 3 hours before bed. This final boost of hydration will heighten your glow (plus give you time to pee before sleepy times!).

  • Take a relaxing bath or shower. It can be 10 minutes or 2 hours - whatever you have time for - but give yourself a little more time than normal to really feel bright and polished and clean!

  • Lotion up. If you haven’t already started the nightly lotion routine - better late than never. Spend a few minutes really valuing and cherishing your body as you apply lotion all over.

  • Get a good night’s sleep. Set yourself up for success by limiting screen time the night before your shoot and getting into bed a little earlier than normal (if possible). Don’t scroll instagram late into the night. Give yourself the gift of good rest. Your body will thank you!

After.

  • Go into your world and rock it like the beautiful, magical queen that you are!

  • Watch your email to find out when your beautiful, custom portrait order is ready for pickup

  • Know that you are loved, worthy, and vibrant.

2 Weeks Away

At this point in your journey it is perfect time to add an extra layer of self-care and make sure you have everything in place so you don’t feel rushed or fretful.

  • Build a nightly lotion routine. If you don’t already have a bottle of lotion on your nightstand - put on there and start using it every night before bed. Take time to appreciate your body and all it has done for you as you apply lotion each night before you sleep. Focus especially on dry areas like elbows, knees, and feet! I personally love this one because the yummy scent leaves me feeling so relaxed and ready for a good night’s rest.

  • Try on your outfits! You can do this in the privacy of your own bedroom or have a fashion show for your significant other or a friend. Make sure the pieces are comfortable, fit well (no gaps and/or significant cutting into your skin), and that you like them.
PRO TIP: Try them on first thing in the morning and look at a mirror in natural light if possible. This will most accurately reflect how your pieces will look in your shoot.
** IMPORTANT ** also know that you will be posed to perfection so all we are looking for in this is for the fit! I take care of the rest.

  • Stay out of the sun. Depending on the time of year you may or may not be soaking up all the vitamin D you can. That’s fine! But for the next two weeks try to keep your tanning to a minimum so you don’t have any extreme tan lines that may not mesh with your outfits. If you do have to be outside I recommend trying to stay in the shade, wearing a hat, and investing in some great sunblock.

3 Days Away

  • Nail it. If painted nails are your thing that is great. Just make sure you show up without any chips or wrinkles. Even if you don’t typically splurge on a professional job this is the perfect time to do so!

If you aren’t a nail girl, that is fine. Your regular lotion routine will have softened your cuticles and given you a healthy nail bed. If you are not having a manicure or pedicure please take the time to cut and clean your finger and toe nails so they are uniform in length and shape. This will help you feel your best.

  • Spray Tanning. You have been staying out of the sun like a good girl, but you would love to have that golden glow. If you pre-scheduled with an airbrush artist (the best idea!) then go enjoy your appointment. Otherwise you can check out local places for spray tan options. Make sure your skin is well exfoliated and select the lightest application available so you feel bronzed, but not burnished.

  • Cut back on alcohol. Alcohol dehydrates you, can cause puffiness, and irritation. If a night cap is your thing try to keep it to one drink per day.

The Day Of

  • Don’t forget to eat! We promise. It will not make you look skinnier. It will only make you cranky.

  • Come ready to be pampered. Grab your bag(s) and come with a clean face and clean, dry hair. We take care of the rest!

  • View and order your favorite photos. We will help you create the perfect collection to meet all of your wants and needs.
