Never Too Old To Feel Beautiful // Kansas City Boudoir Photography

There is a stigma around boudoir that it is only for the young and the thin. That if you are anything other than a size 2 and under the legal age to rent a car you are SOL and might as well never have your picture taken every again (and definitely do not have it taken in a glamorous way!). I meet so many Brave Boss Babes that have been beaten down by this narrative of not being enough for so long that it is a huge leap of faith for them to come into my studio at all.

… and if we are honest with ourselves I think we can all feel that way sometimes no matter our age or our size.

We feel beaten down, battered, weary of our body and perhaps even the spirit inside. We do not understand why the images we are seeing around us to tell us what is beautiful never quite looks like us. Or maybe we wonder why we never look like those models in the magazines.

On top of that we have just normal life stuff: work, family, friends, happiness, grief… that was where Brave Boss Babe Wendy was when she found her way in front of my camera in my Kansas City photo studio.

Even though she is not what I would consider ‘old’ by a long stretch (especially with her bright and bubbly personality and her quick smile), Brave Boss Babe Wendy was feeling a bit low. Life had dealt her a few tough blows including the unfortunate and untimely death of her husband a few years before. Even with the joys of grandchildren, family, and friends there was something missing. Her friends and family told her that she was beautiful, but she just couldn’t see it for herself.

Have you ever been there? Have you ever been in a season where you just cannot believe your own value and worth because you have lost yourself along the way? It is a story I hear all too often and one that also rings true in my own life.

I have felt this way before myself which is why I am so passionate about providing an extraordinary experience to each Brave Boss Babe that comes in to my boudoir studio. Boudoir is something that can swoop in and take you from zero to your own hero if you go to the right photographer. Over the years I have gotten both my Certification in Boudoir Photography and been admitted into the Association of International Boudoir Photographers.

What does that mean?

That means that I have spent hundreds of hours, tons of personal resources, and further commitment to continuing my education. Basically I have my degree in taking sexy pictures of ladies without being a creep about it.

When it comes to unlocking your sexy confidence I know that you want someone that has devoted themselves to their craft, to the study and execution of each little nuance of posing, lighting, and making you feel amazing in your own skin. That is what boudoir is all about. It is about taking the perspective you have of yourself and flipping it on its head. It is about taking all those lies you have told yourself for years about your beauty and your worth and smashing them with the reality that you are a showstopping beauty in your own right!

That is why Brave Boss Babe Wendy found her way to my studio.

That is why she came to me out of any of the other boudoir photographers in the greater Kansas City area.

She knew that what I had to offer her was different. She knew I not only cared about how her images turned out, but also about her personal results. There is a deep satisfaction in watching the difference in how my Brave Boss Babes walk into my studio (normally a little nervous, a little excited, a little closed off) to seeing them walk out (with their head high, some swagger in their step, and glowing).

I loved watching Wendy start to open up and unwind as she sat in the hair and makeup chair with my total pro going to town to bring out her natural beauty. You could tell she was not used to being pampered this way, so used to putting others first, but she sank into it like the queen she is as the day went on.

I went through her wardrobe choices including beautiful sentimental items from her late husband (the denim jacket in the photo below was his) and the lovely softer feminine pieces. I took into consideration about what she had told me about where she felt most comfortable in her body and where she had not made peace. My brain created the perfect pose flows that fit both her preferences and what I knew she needed.

Then it was show time!

Brave Boss Babe Wendy was a pro in front of the camera. She listened to my instructions like a champ and even tried a few poses she was not sure about, but ended up loving. Our time shooting together in my Kansas City studio absolutely flew by. I couldn’t believe it when it was already time for us to review her pictures and have our same day viewing and ordering session.

Brave Boss Babe Wendy was absolutely in awe of her photos.

“Is that me?” She said. “That cannot be me!”

But it was! It was her! It was the her that she had forgotten underneath all of the noise from society and sadness of loss. It was such a challenge to pick her absolute favorites and build a beautiful collection around them, but we did it.

Best of all: Brave Boss Babe Wendy left my boudoir studio with her head held high and a big smile on her face.

Not only did she feel beautiful, she knew she was beautiful.

And that is what it was all about.
